Oral Roberts - Message for Melbourne

In 1956, US healing evangelist Oral Roberts began holding healing revival meetings in Melbourne, Australia. What appeared initially to be a great healing campaign turned violent after the first day. Oral himself was physically assaulted during the meetings. After the fourth night, Oral Roberts was forced to flee from Melbourne, amidst violent threats to burn down his 10,000 seat tent and to kill him.

Inspired by the MorningStar "Honouring The Fathers" conference in March 2008, we felt that a great dishonour had been done to Bro. Oral and to the healing ministry of Jesus. Hence, when we were planning to travel to USA for a conference, we prayed for an opportunity to meet with Bro. Oral to "right this wrong". God divinely arranged for this meeting to take place on 29th September 2008.

We believe Bro. Oral's experience exposed a great demonic opposition against the release of any healing ministry in Melbourne. This revelation first came to us in 2004 when we researched our local newspaper archives on this 1956 event: We saw in the Spirit there was a great healing well in Melbourne that the demonic principalities do not want uncovered.

This was further confirmed by history. In 1880's, there was another pioneer in the healing ministry called John Alexander Dowie. Dowie's healing ministry began to flourish after he moved to Melbourne. His ministry was making impact but there was also fierce opposition. He narrowly escaped death when God warned him to leave his office: a bomb, which had been planted to kill him, exploded shortly afterwards.

Both examples of such unusual, violent behaviour against men of God who represented the healing power of Jesus did not originate from human sources. We are not wrestling against flesh and blood. Hence, we asked Bro. Oral to agree with us to break the opposing demonic powers so that our city of Melbourne would be released in God's healing power, leading to the salvation of souls.

May our Lord Jesus -- through His Church -- release His Healing Power as a witness of His Gospel. May the reality of His Resurrection Presence in our midst be our strength and our comfort.
